ICYMI: New Report Shows Leadership-Backed Amendment Will Cost Nearly 20 Million Americans’ Health Coverage

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Joint Economic Committee – Minority released updated data that shows if the Senate budget reconciliation bill was amended with a Senate leadership-backed amendment reducing federal matching (FMAP) for 41 states including Washington, D.C., nine states that have automatic “trigger laws” would be forced to automatically end their Medicaid expansion programs. Based on CBO’s analysis and other research, the Joint Economic Committee – Minority found that due to these “trigger laws,” the leadership-backed amendment would cause nearly 20 million people across the country to lose their health insurance.

“The amendment backed by the Senate leadership adds insult to injury. It would leave 20 million Americans uninsured and frankly does not even pretend to cut waste, fraud, and abuse.”– Chip Kahn, Federation of American Hospitals’ (FAH) President and CEO.
