“High deductibles and narrow networks put care further out of reach” – FAH Statement on NBPP Final Rule

Washington, D.C. (May 15, 2026) – Charlene MacDonald, President and CEO of the Federation of American Hospitals (FAH), released the following statement on the FY 27 NBPP Final Rule:

“Policymakers are right to focus on lowering the cost of coverage, but premiums are only part of the affordability equation. For patients, affordability is about what they pay out-of-pocket and whether coverage translates into real access to care. Plans built around high deductibles and narrow — or even non-existent — provider networks can put care further out of reach. We look forward to partnering with the Administration to strengthen transparency and increase oversight around medical loss ratio standards to ensure that premium dollars are spent on patient care.”
