Salary range for this role is $115,000 – $170,000. FAH offers discretionary annual performance bonus to eligible employees.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Federation of American Hospitals (FAH) is seeking a skilled public affairs operator with strong health care experience to help drive strategic communications and advance our advocacy efforts on behalf of our member hospitals.

The Director, Public Affairs is a key member of the Federation of American Hospitals’ Public Affairs / Communications team. Working closely with the Vice President, Public Affairs and the Associate Director, Communications, this position is tasked with translating complex issues into clear, compelling messaging and executing communications strategies that support advocacy, media engagement, and stakeholder outreach. The ideal candidate is an organized, collaborative teammate who can work across functions and manage projects and timelines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and execute communications project plans to support policy campaigns, regulatory engagement, legislative initiatives, and executive positioning.
  • Advise and help create messaging-related materials, including one-pagers and infographics, that advance FAH’s policy priorities.
  • Collaborate with policy and government relations teams to translate complex health care policy into accessible communications.
  • Support rapid response communications on key health policy developments, including regulations, legislation, and industry issues.
  • Manage content development across communications channels, including digital platforms and external publications.
  • Track and monitor health care policy and industry news to identify opportunities for communications engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5–7 years of communications experience, preferably in health care, health policy, or public affairs.
  • Experience drafting policy-focused messaging, statements, talking points, and communications materials.
  • Strong ability to develop communications project plans across multiple initiatives.
  • Experience working in health care industry communications, public affairs multi-client setting, Capitol Hill, or an advocacy organization.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced policy environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
