FAH Leads Effort to Advance New LTCH Reform Policy Principles

FAH is proud to be part of a group of key hospital stakeholders that partnered to develop a set of policy principles designed to guide legislative staff and members of Congress when considering short- and long-term policy solutions to support Long-Term Care Hospitals (LTCH).

The comprehensive set of policy principles includes:

  • Ensure access for certain high-acuity beneficiaries by expanding payment criteria
  • Improve the accuracy of the LTCH PPS
  • Consider changing the 25-day average length of stay (ALOS) requirement
  • Restructure the LTCH outlier system
  • Expand rural access to LTCHs
  • Rein in harmful Medicare Advantage (MA) practices

LTCHs are critical in caring for some of our nation’s sickest and most complex patients, but current policy barriers risk patient access to care. These principles are intended to serve as a discussion document on legislative options currently under consideration in Congress.

We look forward to continuing the momentum toward meaningful policy action to deliver immediate relief to LTCHs and the patients they serve.
