FAH Builds Out Executive Team, Announces New Head of Government Relations

Washington, D.C. (May 7, 2026) – The Federation of American Hospitals (FAH) is strengthening its executive team under President and CEO Charlene MacDonald with the new addition of Elizabeth Schwartz as Senior Vice President and Head of Government Relations, where she will oversee FAH’s government relations and political advocacy efforts. In this role, Liz will lead FAH’s engagement with policymakers and key stakeholders, advance the organization’s priorities across key policy areas, and further strengthen FAH’s advocacy on behalf of tax-paying hospitals.

“Liz brings exactly the kind of experience and leadership that will strengthen our advocacy at a critical time for our members. She understands not only the policy landscape, but also the political dynamics that shape it — an increasingly important combination in today’s environment. Her ability to navigate complex challenges, build relationships on Capitol Hill, and deliver results will be invaluable as we advance priorities that support tax-paying hospitals and the patients and communities they serve,” said Charlene MacDonald, President and CEO of the Federation of American Hospitals.

Liz Schwartz joins FAH after nearly a decade in the biopharmaceutical industry, where she played a central role in advancing key advocacy initiatives. Earlier in her career, Liz served in the U.S. Senate, including as Health Subcommittee Staff Director for former Senator Mike Enzi (R-WY) on the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee. She also managed health care policy issues for Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI). Prior to her Senate service, Liz held government relations roles in the physician specialty community and at other organizations.
