Washington, D.C. (July 21, 2026) – Charlene MacDonald, President and CEO of the Federation of American Hospitals (FAH), released the following statement following the House Energy and Commerce Committee legislative markup addressing insurer transparency and patient access to care:

“Hospitals have made significant investments in tools that help patients better understand their expected costs before care is delivered, recognizing that transparency works when it produces meaningful information for patients and not just more data.

“That commitment to transparency should extend across the health care system, and many of the bills being considered by the Committee today will bring greater visibility into insurer practices that drive up patients’ out-of-pocket costs. Taxpaying hospitals will continue providing meaningful, actionable information patients need to make informed decisions about their care.”
