Hospitals In Focus

Stories of Care Special Episode

The work, dedication, and resilience of hospital providers and staff is centered on providing high-quality care for their patients. In this special episode of Hospitals in Focus, we spotlight two compelling stories of patient care from the frontlines, offering unique perspectives from both a health care provider and patient.

Join us as we hear firsthand from Amy Capella Smith, CEO of Foundations Behavioral Health, a UHS facility in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, as she navigates the challenges and rewards of providing behavioral health services to children, adolescents, and young adults.

We also share Jenna Tanner’s story, who survived what is often called the “widow maker,” a massive heart attack, while home alone. Jenna was able to call 911 and get the emergency medical help she needed at Hillcrest Hospital, an Ardent Health hospital, where she received lifesaving care. Her experience serves as a universal message about heart health and the importance of recognizing the early signs of a heart attack.

Amy Capella Smith joined Foundations Behavioral Health in 2014 as the Director of Utilization Management and Special Projects and was promoted to Assistant Hospital Administrator in 2016. Amy became the Interim CEO in 2021 and was appointed CEO in 2022. Prior to joining the incredible team at Foundations, she held multiple leadership positions within the behavioral health field across the southeast region of Pennsylvania. Throughout her career, Amy has focused on improving outcomes for individuals through a trauma-informed approach that recognizes the multidimensional and often complex needs of children, adolescents, and young adults. With more than 25 years of experience in behavioral health programs, Amy is passionate about providing high quality, specialized services across the continuum of programs offered at Foundations and is honored to serve as the CEO.
