Vice President, Government Relations

ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND

The Federation of American Hospitals (FAH), founded in 1966, is the national representative of more than 1,000 tax-paying community hospitals and health systems throughout the United States. FAH members provide patients and communities with access to high-quality, affordable care in both urban and rural areas across 46 states, plus Washington, D.C and Puerto Rico. Our members include teaching, acute, inpatient rehabilitation, behavioral health, and long-term care hospitals and provide a wide range of inpatient, ambulatory, post-acute, emergency, children’s, and cancer services.

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Description:

The Vice President, Government Relations is a key member of the FAH advocacy team with responsibility for working to ensure that the FAH legislative agenda is achieved. This position works together with other members of the FAH team, including the policy and communications divisions, to craft policy, share intelligence and coordinate strategy. Successful candidates will be comfortable crafting and executing comprehensive advocacy strategies, while also anticipating and meeting the needs of a politically engaged membership.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a key liaison to Democratic Members of the House and Senate, as well as staff, to advocate on a broad range of health issues.
  • Represent the FAH at various industry and coalition meetings.
  • Participate in both local and in-district fundraisers for select Members of Congress.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the legislative provisions of the FAH Strategic Plan.
  • Advise on the development and execution of FedPAC’s annual fundraising plan and contribution strategy with a focus on Democrats.
  • Maintain a trustworthy and valuable reputation for all constituencies, including on Capitol Hill, the Administration, and within the FAH membership.
  • Regularly travel to member hospitals for a range of activities, including hosting roundtables with Members of Congress and Senators.
  • Participate and assist staffing of various FAH policy committees.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Graduate degree preferred.
  • Candidate should have a minimum of 5-10 years of experience working for a Congressional office/committee, trade association, government agency, or similar entity.
  • Healthcare experience strongly preferred. 
  • PAC experience is welcomed, but not required. 

Salary

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience.

Work Location

  • FAH is headquartered in Washington, D.C., near the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro station.  The position is hybrid, working out of the headquarters office Monday-Thursday, with an optional remote day on Fridays, plus 15 additional remote work days annually.
