“This legacy of coverage and care is now at risk.” – FAH Statement on the 59th Anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid

Washington, DC – FAH President and CEO Chip Kahn released the following statement on the 59th anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid being signed into law.

“When President Lyndon B. Johnson signed Medicare and Medicaid into law, it ushered in a new era of health care security and set a precedent for expanding coverage for future generations.

This legacy of coverage and care is now at risk. The ACA enhanced subsidies, which extended the reach of access to high-quality, affordable coverage to millions more Americans, are set to expire next year – and with them, the promise of care for the very vulnerable. Action will be needed to keep the promise.

Today, on the 59th anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid, we remind ourselves that good health care depends on good health care coverage, and we remain committed to strengthening access to coverage for all Americans.”
