Washington, D.C. (November 6, 2025) – Millions of hardworking American families are waiting for Congress to act and extend the health care tax credits, but Congress remains at a stalemate. It doesn’t have to be this way: there is bipartisan agreement among key lawmakers – extending the health care tax credits is critical, and it must be done soon to avoid massive price hikes for their constituents. Lawmakers must come to the table, keep costs low for working families, and extend the health care tax credits.
Read below to see a few examples of Republican lawmakers voicing support for an extension of the tax credits.
Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) – “I personally support an extension in some form of those tax credits.”
Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) – On allowing the credit to expire, he said, “I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID) – “I believe at some point we’re going to need to deal with it.”
Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) – “We’re gonna have to do something on that front, because if we don’t, premiums are gonna absolutely skyrocket. I’m open to suggestions, but one option that will absolutely not fly is do nothing. We just can’t. People won’t be able to live, they won’t be able to see a doctor.”
Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) – “I’m looking to perhaps do some reforms to it, but I think it is something that we are going to be forced to deal with, to reckon with, in my state.”
Senator Mike Rounds (R-SD) – “I think that they should be extended.”
Senator Dan Sullivan (R-AK) – “There’s a lot of interest in this, and I’m certainly part of that interest.”
Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) – “I think it’s bad policy, bad politics to let them lapse.”
Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) – An expiration of the credit, he said, “would hurt my state, Alabama.”
Representative Don Bacon (R-NE) – “I’m all for breaking the logjam. A lot of Republicans don’t want to see these premiums go up either.”
Representative Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) – “Letting these subsidies expire without a plan would put health coverage out of reach for millions of families in my community and across the country.”
Representative Jen Kiggans (R-VA) – “Congress needs to develop a responsible, sustainable plan before these COVID credits expire. Raising costs for families with little notice, and potentially stripping them of access to care, is simply unacceptable.”
