FAH Urges Flexible AI Action Plan to Promote Innovation

Today, FAH submitted comments to the National Science Foundation in response to its Request for Information on the Development of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Plan. FAH comments urged key elements in the development of the plan:

  • Balance regulatory oversight with the need to innovate and advance AI.
  • Establish a uniform regulatory framework, including a national federal privacy law that expressly pre-empts state laws.
  • Define AI and establish standard definitions and benchmarking tools.
  • Collaborate with providers when developing an AI framework and regulations.
  • Use a risk management approach to AI, including existing laws such as HIPAA.
  • Promote industry-driven best practices to promote:
    • Flexible AI model development and accountability.
    • Open-source AI development.
    • Security against AI model attacks.
    • Data privacy and security.
  • Support patient data rights that maximize the benefits of AI in healthcare.
  • AI developer accountability.
  • Personalized and accessible AI education.
  • Protect intellectual property.
