“The report puts an exclamation point on what we’ve been saying for a long time” – FAH President and CEO Responds to New Senate Investigations Report

Today, the Senate Homeland Security Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations released a report showing the nation’s three largest Medicare Advantage insurers all significantly increased the rate at which they denied seniors’ post-acute care from 2020 to 2023, including access to nursing homes, inpatient rehabilitation facilities, and long-term acute care hospitals. The report also spells out how insurers are using unregulated algorithms and technologies to increase their prior authorization denials.

FAH President and CEO Chip Kahn released the following statement on the report:

“The report today puts an exclamation point on what we’ve been saying for a long time: patients are being hung out to dry by MA plans’ delays and denials. It’s past time that legislators and regulators hold plans accountable and protect patient care.”
